For four long years I’ve known you
I’ve held you in my heart
Four years since I first embraced you
I can’t bear that we’re apart
Four years I’ve grasped the memories
Of every day we shared
Hoping none of them would fade
So you would know how much I cared
Four years since you first cried out
To let the world know you were here
A soul so special and so pure
That I know I still feel you near
In those four years a lot has changed
We will never be the same
Our grief we’ll hold for all our lives
But our happiness can be reclaimed
For years I’ve thought that sadness
Was all that I could feel
And whilst some days that has been true
Other emotions are just as real
I think of you with love, filled up
You are etched inside who I am
You’ve shown me how life should be lived
Made me a better man
So whilst some days I may falter
And shed very many tears
I want to take a pause to say
Thank you for these four years
