Day 136 (for Daisy)

Each milestone that you have past
Has filled us up with pride
We share our joy abundantly
But the pain we try to hide

You have shared with us a Father’s Day
Family birthdays have come and gone
And whilst we love to celebrate
There are things we still dwell on

As we sit and watch you grow
We can’t help ourselves but compare
You seem so strong, and whilst that’s great
It just seems so unfair

As sisters you are so alike
Both funny, beautiful and calm
It is hard to imagine that one so small
Could come to any harm

We find it hard each year on Ivy’s birthday
And on the day Ivy passed
They mark another year that’s been
And our grief still feels so vast

Now we’re faced with a milestone
That we each knew had to come
This one we fear more than all
A day we can’t be protected from

You have shared your sisters pram
Her clothes, her cot, her room
You had first smiles, splashed in the bath
And have both come into bloom

Yet you are not your sister
These last few months have made that clear
The gene that caused such tragedy
This time caused so much cheer

On day one hundred and thirty six
Our family will forever change
You will become our eldest child
Which may seem a little strange

Ivy will always be our first
We will love and always miss her
But no more comparisons can be made
To your older baby sister
