A day to celebrate our Dads
To thank them for all they do
Give a gift, and share a meal
Does this sound familiar to you?
For some of us the day is mixed
Celebrating relationships we still have
But remembering, those we’ve lost
Leaves us feeling sad
I wish my dad a pleasant day
I want him to know he’s loved
But I am standing on the edge
In the fear of being shoved
For me this day is just so hard
Because I lost my only daughter
Which has left me out at sea
In the thrashing water
There are days, when the sea is calm
Where I can control my emotions
But on the day dedicated to Dads
I feel helpless in these oceans
I remember all my days with her
With so much joy and wonder
So now that she’s no longer here
I want a duvet to hide under
My situation’s a painful one
Made harder knowing there are more
That find this day so painful
And feel it to their core
Some, like me, have lost a child
Where others have lost their dad
Maybe you don’t know your father
And that’s what makes you sad
Your relationship may have broken down
Or your dad may be unwell
Have you been trying to conceive for years
Making this day hell
So think today of those struggling
Perhaps you know a few
Then take a break, as you celebrate
And tell them you’re thinking of them too
