You’re stood in the hallway of happiness
Doors run along either side
If you could only pick one
Like a lifetime of fun
I wonder what you would decide
You notice each door has a small golden plaque
Highlighting what waits within
The first plaque says fame
The next, life without pain
Do you read all or just jump right in?
Each door would give you some happiness
But which one is best for you?
Infinite money
A world always sunny
Well which door will you walk through?
Only one door remains at the end of the hall
Your heart beats with anticipation
But it’s covered in dust
And the handle in rust
The sign reads ‘Feeling content in your situation’
With all things in life there is always a choice
And now it is time to decide
Think this through clearly
What brings happiness, really?
As into one of these rooms you must stride
If you only ever felt joy in a life full of fun
You would never feel appreciation
And a life without pain
Would be much the same
As life wouldn’t have any foundation
The more that we have, the more that we want
For both money and fame that is true
They may bring adoration
Alongside frustration
As everyone will want a piece of you
Living your life in constant sunshine
Seems like quite a fine thing
But when seasons don’t change
Life doesn’t have range
Could you live without Autumn or Spring?
So what about that dusty old door
I wonder what it’s plaque had meant
Why was no one keen?
Oh, what does it mean
To feel constantly clearly content?
Think of a life where you have it all
Not wanting for anything more
A life without pressure
Would be one to treasure
Why do people not choose this door?
You enter the room to find life just the same
Yet you feel suddenly, strangely, relieved
The chasing has gone
You’ve been living life wrong
True happiness has now been achieved
Contentment and happiness go hand in hand
Satisfaction with life is the key
Even when life’s unkind
Have hope that you’ll find
Just a moment where you are happy
